Born in Venezuela, Silvia Cohen’s career began at the early age of 15. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Haifa, Israel, and through the years has experimented with several forms of visual art including drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, photography, etching, silkscreen, and silversmith.

Cohen has shown her work in collective and solo exhibitions in Venezuela, Israel, Switzerland and Romania. Simultaneously to her visual arts career, the artist has been teaching adults drawing and painting since 1996.

Her recent body of work is inspired by Jewish life in Miami’s South Beach of the 70’s. Moved by the pictures and the story of photographer Andy Sweet as well as by the Mariel Cuban migration, she is developing her own story of these imaginary Jewish characters and their journey to bizarre and fantastical destinations.

Always present in her work is the concept of “joie de vivre”, which she expresses through the use of vivid colors and energetic brush strokes.
